The department of Mathematics and Statistics was established in the year 2015. The department strives to be recognized for excellence among academic institutions in India and abroad. It offers M. Sc. and Ph. D. programs in the area of Mathematics and Statistics. Department focuses on providing a comprehensive curriculum at postgraduate and research level. It provides relevant research and career opportunities in India and abroad. In addition to the faculty’s strong research interests, there is an equally strong desire to provide instruction of the highest quality. Mathematics plays a critical role in our efforts to understand the nature of the physical universe and in the continuing development of our technological society. There is also a long tradition that recognizes the value of mathematics for its aesthetic appeal to the human spirit. Many students of the liberal arts decide to study mathematics for one or both of these reasons. Students also study mathematics in order to develop critical reasoning skills that can significantly contribute to many personal goals. Within the last few years the frenetic pace of research and development in computers and high technology has led to strong new imperatives for more mathematical expertise, and the need to nurture a new generation of mathematically competent men and women. The department offers a six months Certificate Course in Vedic Mathematics with intake of 50 students.
The Department of Mathematics, NIT Jalandhar is one of the eighteen departments of the Institute. The department offers MSc and PhD programs in Mathematics. The department also teaches Mathematics to BTech, MTech and PhD students belonging to various engineering streams. The department has thirteen faculty members who are actively involved in research activities in addition to the regular teaching activities. The faculty members of the department are specialized in frontier areas of Mathematics such as Algebra, Matrix Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Mechanics, Statistics, Optimization, Soft Computing, etc. The Department, till date, has produced 10 PhDs in different branches of Mathematics. Several research projects of the department are financially supported by some of the leading funding agencies such as DST and NBHM. The Department keeps in pace with the advances in technology, by providing its students state-of–the-art computer facilities. The students get the opportunity of attending seminars and invited lectures delivered by eminent mathematicians and academicians. They also get the opportunity for campus
placement in various national and multinational companies.
The Mathematics department is one of the prestigious departments of Baba Farid College. It was established in 2006. Post-graduation (M.Sc Maths) and Graduation courses (B.Sc Hons Maths) run under this department. For the fulfillment of its teaching, the Department has competent faculty members with a high degree of excellence, which keeps pace with current developments in the field of specialization. The Department organizes a number of activities for the overall development of students like Extension lectures, Quiz contests, Conferences, Educational visits, Group discussions, etc. The faculty participates in various conferences, seminars, workshops, and field visits. The students are given the opportunity to participate in departmental academic events. This has enhanced their learning skills. The faculty and students have been exposed to the usage of computer packages and utilize audio-visual aids for learning and teaching. In M.Sc Maths those elective subjects choose which are beneficial for students in CSIR-UGC NET and Coaching classes for CSIR-UGC NET are provided by Faculty to students along with their daily curriculum.
The history of School of Computing and Informatics has begun in 2013GC with three departments; Computer Science, Information Technology and Information Systems to share the mission of the institution. The basic objective of School of Computing and Informatics is to produce high quality graduates with full professional competence for the local and international IT industries. The School of Computing and informatics promotes impact-oriented research activities and strive to solve national problems using ICT as an enabling force to societal digital transformation. The school also consider community service as priority and it is the reason for us to be here.
As the years go by, the establishment of the school has seen a significant increasing number of students and staff populations, and demands for sophisticated facilities. Currently, the school has 4 assistant professors, 51 lecturers, 24 assistant lecturers, and 10 technical assistants. For the successful realization of its mission, the school has fully furnished 10 laboratories in the aforementioned departments and it aspires to be a center of excellence in computing science. Since one of the pillars of the school is research and innovation, we have been working for the establishment of special research project lab such as in Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence labs.
School of Computing and Informatics consists of the following four undergraduate programs and undergoing to open graduate program in Information Technology.
